OBJECTIVES

Research on the build heritage focuses on three mutually complementary and supportive lines of work:

  • public works heritage
  • the built landscape
  • civil engineering theory

Unlike architectural heritage, which has been the object of years of research by various schools of thought, public works have a poorly delimited perimeter, have been scantly explored and have insufficiently developed fundamentals. And yet their territorial presence affords them a conclusive role in the formation of the cultural landscape that, since the 2000Florence Convention, is considered as an essential source of character and identity of European diversity.
